I love to share a type designer’s perspective with graphic designers, students, and people who use or make letters in their work. I have visited classrooms all over metro Vancouver and have spoken internationally about type to a variety of audiences. Learn how to create greeting cards with brush pen calligraphy! We’ll go through the basics of the different types of stokes and how to form each letter of the alphabet. Then, we’ll work on creating a greeting card with a word or short phrase that you can send to a friend who deserves a hand-crafted card.
Using a free trial of Glyphs (Mac only) or vector drawing software you are comfortable with, learn the best practices of vectorizing letterforms. We’ll use old apartment signage from around Vancouver as our practice letterforms and finish with a colourful, vectorized version of the historical signage.
